Royal Oak Children’s Choir (ROCC) is pleased to announce that Megan Poli has joined the choir as the new Artistic Choir.
Poli comes to ROCC with over a decade of experience teaching elementary and middle school students music. She spent two years as a conductor and educator with the Denver Children’s Choir, where she helped establish their In-School Choir Program.
She holds a BA in Music Education and Voice from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. She received her Masters and is ABD in Music Education from the University of Colorado.
She is currently teaching elementary general music and beginner piano at Michigan International Prep School.
“I have learned that if children are given a voice in constructing their own learning experiences, they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their musical abilities,” says Poli of her teaching philosophy.
The ROCC is a tuition-based community choir open this season to children in grades 3-8 for the 2023-2024 season. Children do not need to be Royal Oak residents to participate.
ROCC’s goal is to give children the tools and confidence to express themselves through music while connecting with fellow choir members and the community.
Two concerts are planned this year, with additional community performances to be announced. The choir will focus on “Sounds of the Season” in the fall. Next spring, we will honor our history while looking forward to the future.
ROCC invites the community to a meet and greet on Tuesday, August 8th, from 6-8 pm at Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak. Poli and ROCC Board members will be on hand to meet with families.
ROCC celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023. It began as a workshop in 1997 with the vision of giving students the opportunity to learn through a comprehensive approach. It has grown into a rich tradition around Southeast Oakland County. Our choirs have toured the state and the country, learning about and sharing music.
