Audition Advice: How to Sing Your Heart Out

So you want to join the Royal Oak Children’s Choir. But then you see the requirement: an audition!! Just the word audition can put fear in most people’s hearts! But don’t worry, because we have some tips for you that will help you prepare for your big day and show off your talent.

Tip #1: Pick a Song You Love

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a song for your audition is to pick one that you love. Why? Because when you love a song, you will sing it with more passion, enthusiasm, and emotion. You will also be more familiar with the lyrics, melody, and rhythm, which will make it easier for you to memorize and perform. Plus, singing a song you love will make you more confident and relaxed, which will show in your voice and body language.

Althea, a current ROCC member suggests, “Be confident and choose a song that shows your vocal range.”

So, how do you pick a song you love?

Well, think about what kind of music you enjoy listening to and singing along with. Do you like pop, rock, musical theater or Disney songs? Do you have a favorite singer or band that inspires you? Or maybe you have a favorite genre or style of music that suits your voice and personality? Once you have some ideas, try to find a song that matches the criteria of the audition. For example, since this audition is for a children’s choir, you might want to avoid songs that are too mature, complex, or inappropriate for your age group. Instead, look for songs that are fun, catchy, and suitable for a choir setting.

#2: Speak Clear and Loud

Another tip for acing your audition is to speak clear and loud before you start singing. Why? Because speaking clear and loud will help us hear and understand you better. It will also show them that you are confident, articulate, and respectful. Speaking clear and loud will also help you warm up your voice and get ready to sing.

So, how do you speak clearly and loudly?

Well, first of all, make sure you introduce yourself properly. Say your name, your age, and the name of the song you are going to sing. Speak slowly, clearly, and loudly enough so that everyone can hear you. Avoid mumbling, whispering, or shouting. Use proper grammar and pronunciation. Smile and make eye contact with the camera. Also remember to be polite and courteous.

Tip #3: Be Confident

The final tip for rocking your audition is to be confident in yourself and your abilities. Why? Because confidence is contagious and attractive. It will also make you feel more positive and happy about yourself and your performance.

“Just be confident,” suggests current ROCC member Charlie, “It helps to remember everyone's rooting for you.” Which is the great thing about ROCC. Everyone of us really is cheering you on!

So, how do you be confident?

Well, first of all, believe in yourself. Remember that you have worked hard to prepare for this audition and that you have something unique and valuable to offer. Don’t let negative thoughts or doubts get in the way of your success. Instead, focus on the positive aspects of yourself and your singing.

Second of all, act confident. Even if you feel nervous or scared inside, don’t let it show on the outside. Instead, act as if you are already a member of the choir and that this audition is just a formality. Smile confidently, stand confidently, and sing confidently.

Third of all, enjoy yourself. Don’t think of the audition as a stressful test or a competition. Think of it as an opportunity to share your passion and joy for singing with others. Have fun and let your personality shine through.

Conclusion

Singing is a wonderful skill that can bring joy to yourself and others. If you want to join a children’s choir and share your gift with the world, follow these tips for your audition: pick a song you love, speak clear and loud, and be confident. Remember to have fun while singing. Good luck!
